Welcome Day at Karaganda Medical University: Immersion into the World of Medicine
On February 13, 2025, fr om 12 PM to 4 PM, Karaganda Medical University opened its doors to all those who dream of a career in medicine. Over 1,000 school students fr om Karaganda dived into the vibes of science and professional development, exploring the vast educational opportunities offered by our university.

The main focus was on introducing prospective students to the educational programs at KMU. At each stand, representatives from various fields—ranging from teaching staff to students—detailed the specifics of their professions, modern teaching methods, opportunities for practical experience, and career prospects. Guests not only learned about the latest technologies and equipment but also to see first-hand how knowledge is applied in practice to build a successful career in medicine.

At the public health school stand, prospective students had the opportunity to try on an epidemiologist's suit and examine the instruments used by public health doctors. Teaching staff discussed the similarities and differences between occupations in the public health sector, helping prospective specialists make career choices.

Biomedical students from the Institute of Life Sciences held a workshop on the proper use of microscopes, opening up the fascinating world of animalcule. School students eagerly observed through the ocular lens, studying a variety of cells, insects, and other specimens, which allowed them to feel like real researchers.

Future pharmacists and technologists from the School of Pharmacy explained the special aspects of manufacturing of medicinal products and the application of chemistry in health care activities and health gain. Medical specialists—doctors, pediatricians, and dentists—shared information about admissions and process of education, while the Dean of the School of Medicine and career counselors of the university provided detailed consultation.
One of the highlights of the day were the practical stations, wh ere guests had the chance to try essential medical skills for themselves. Under the guidance of medical and pediatric students, they practiced performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation with the "ANNE" child model, worked with the AirSim Multi simulator to manage air passage, and provided first aid for injuries using specialized kits. Additionally, participants had the chance to practice putting stitches in a training simulator, allowing them to experience the atmosphere of real medical practice.
The university library also attracted significant attention. Here, students and teaching staff have access to an extensive collection of printed and electronic resources, ensuring they are always up to date with the latest scientific insights. Convenient organization of the space, availability of scientific journals, and electronic database convinced prospective students that KMU places great importance on developing its scientific potential.

We cannot overlook the university's mascot—a marmot in a doctor’s coat—who became a highlight of the event. This charming character accompanied guests around the university, creating relaxed and friendly vibes. Photo areas featuring the mascot allowed attendees to take vivid pictures to remember and feel like part of a large and welcoming academic family.
The Welcome Day at Karaganda Medical University was a true immersion into the world of medicine, wh ere everyone could take their first steps toward their future profession, share impressions, connect with new people, and feel supported by experienced mentors.
