From April 6 to April 10, 2026, a 5-day training session for instructors titled "Interpersonal communication for immunization in Kazakhstan" was held in Karaganda on the basis of “Karaganda Medical University” NCJSC. The event was organized with the technical support of the World Health Organization and in cooperation with the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The training session was attended by 30 lecturers from the departments of pediatrics, family medicine, infectious diseases and epidemiology of medical universities in Kazakhstan. The participants advanced their knowledge on modern immunoprophylaxis and developed practical skills of effective communication with parents who doubt or refuse vaccination, which will improve the quality of training for prospective specialists and strengthen the national immunization system.
Special attention has been given to the implementation of WHO modules on immunoprophylaxis and interpersonal communication in educational programs. The concept of the postgraduate course on immunization, the plan for its implementation, as well as recommendations for updating pre-graduate education were discussed. Karaganda Medical University presented the experience of integrating updated modules into academic syllabuses.
As part of the training session, the WHO Representative in Kazakhstan, Skender Syla, visited the university on April 5-6. During the visit, meetings were held with the university administration and students (interns, PhD candidates, and students), as well as visits to the university's research laboratory, library, museum and simulation center.
