Trust, Tolerance and Political Wisdom in Modern Healthcare
18 September 2025
Second-year students from the International Faculty (studying the "Political Science" module) and School of Medicine (studying the "Foundations of Tolerance" module) gathered together for an exclusive event on September 16, 2025, as part of the educational process at the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Social-Political Sciences. The main subject of the discussion was how cultural differences affect interactions between medical professionals and patients, with a particular emphasis on the importance of tolerance and political realities.
Conducting such an interdisciplinary session is highly relevant and essential because modern reality requires cultural diversity. Today's world is growing more globalized, and doctors are required to provide medical care to people of various ethnic backgrounds, religions, and cultures. Understanding the specifics  in health perceptions and attitudes toward treatment among people of different ethnicities enables healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care while minimizing conflicts.
The event was held in English, displaying the attendees' advanced proficiency in foreign language from both faculties.
Students prepared presentations reflecting the cultural experiences of three countries: Kazakhstan, India, and Pakistan. The presentations described traditional approaches to health, religious beliefs, customs, and values that influenced patients' behavior. Attendees discussed challenges emerging in multicultural healthcare settings and sought collaborative solutions to overcome obstacles.

In the second part of the session, participants were divided into five subgroups and assigned situational tasks. Each group was challenged to demonstrate their ability to demonstrate tolerance, respect, and empathy in complex doctor-patient interactions. This enabled future professionals to improve their multicultural communication skills and successfully handle forthcoming issues.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony for attendance. Speakers were handed notebooks as a reminder, while other attendees were given small souvenirs as an expression of thanks for their active involvement and contribution to the common cause.
Such educational events serve create skilled employees that are competent and ready to work effectively in today's multiethnic medical setting.
The event was moderated by faculty members from the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Social-Political Sciences, including PhD, associate professor Bagdat Sabitovna Bitenova, and assistant professor Dinara Yermekovna Dzhakupova.
