Roundtable Discussion on "Raising Awareness on Drug Hypersensitivity"

The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology has designated November 21st as World Anaphylaxis Awareness Day. As part of this global initiative, the Department of Internal Medicine hosted a roundtable discussion on "Drug Hypersensitivity" on November 28, 2024. The roundtable was organized by the faculty of the "Allergology-Immunology (Adult and Pediatric)" program, led by O.Yu. Dedova, the program director, Assistant Professor M.R. Izmailovich, Professor L.Sh. Seksanova, Lecturer A.V. Koshkarbaeva, and Assistant Professor A.V. Skvortsova from the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Perinatology, in collaboration with resident allergist-immunologists. Students from the second, third, fourth, and sixth years, as well as students from group 4-025 who are participating in an exchange program from Ryazan, Russia, were in attendance.

The issue of drug hypersensitivity is becoming increasingly relevant as the number of individuals experiencing adverse reactions to drugs increases year after year. Drug hypersensitivity spans a wide spectrum of symptoms, from mild rashes to life-threatening anaphylactic responses. Experts highlighted that drug hypersensitivity can be caused by various medications, which complicates diagnosis and requires a comprehensive approach to treatment.

The attending students actively asked questions, showing a keen interest in the topics being discussed. Special attention was given to the mechanisms of allergic reactions and modern diagnostic methods that allow for the precise identification of drug sensitivities. Numerous questions were raised about diagnosis and the specifics of treatment, which demonstrates the high level of student engagement with the topic. The students expressed a desire to continue participating in such events, emphasizing the importance of applying knowledge in practice and deepening their understanding of these critical areas of medicine.
