An international scientific and practical conference on “Modern Approaches in Traumatology, Orthopedics, and Rehabilitation: Innovations and Practical Application” was held in Karaganda, to mark the 110th anniversary of Professor Kh.Zh. Makazhanov, founder of the Karaganda Region's trauma care, and the 75th anniversary of Karaganda Medical University.



The conference program included a Joint Session of the Kazakhstan Association of Trauma Orthopedists and the Asia Pacific Orthopedic Association; Meeting of chief visiting trauma orthopedists from the regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan; and the Batpenov Readings competition for young scientists.
The conference was attended by about 900 leading medical and scientific leaders from around the world – Kazakhstan, China, Russia, Belarus, Türkiye, Germany, South Korea, Japan, Austria, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Croatia, Poland, and Slovenia.



The conference became a venue for lively scientific discussions and a promising platform for further development and cooperation.
Nowadays, when discussing the development and achievements of traumatology and orthopedics in Kazakhstan, we must first mention its founder—orthopedist-traumatologist, Distinguished Doctor of the Kazakh SSR, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Khafiz Zhanabayevich Makazhanov. He is an exceptional individual who fought in the Great Patriotic War, made an invaluable contribution to the establishment and development of surgical and traumatology services in Central Kazakhstan, and created an academic community of surgeons and trauma orthopedists.



Khafiz Zhanabayevich has a special place in the history of the Karaganda Medical Institute. In 1958, he established the Department of Traumatology, Orthopedics, and Military Surgery at the university, which he supervised for many years. Nowadays, the Department of Surgical Diseases is supervised by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Berik Yerkebulanovich Tuleubayev, who is also the head of the Traumatology Center of the Multidisciplinary Hospital named after Professor Kh.Zh. Makazhanov. Over the years, hundreds of graduates of Karaganda Medical University have become leading specialists in surgery, traumatology, and orthopedics. These days, the Department of Surgical Diseases is the honor of Karaganda Medical University.
