Meetings of the Local History Club
Meetings of the Local History Club
31 October 2025
This term, the Local History Club of the Department of Kazakhstan and Social-Political Sciences resumed its work after the holidays. The first two meetings were held in October. Thus, the first meeting took place on October 2. There were 2 presentations: O.A. Kovtun, assistant professor at the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Social-Political Sciences on the topic of "Baku is the pearl of the Caucasus"; Yana Kim, a 2nd-year student majoring in Pediatrics on the topic of "Historical sights of Samarkand". The speakers related about the historical landmarks of Baku, one of the oldest cities of the middle ages in South Caucasus, and Samarkand, a 2,500–year–old city in Central Asia in a vivid and interesting way. We saw pictures and videos, visited interesting and obscure and "lanes" of these ancient cities of the Muslim East!
On October 16, a scheduled meeting of our club took place. The fascinating presentation by A.I. Ongarbayeva, assistant professor fr om the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Social-Political Sciences on her trip to Vietnam with interesting facts about tourist and historical landmarks was met with great interest of the audience. Aiman Igilikovna, including in particular, narrated about the caves wh ere tourists are guided and well- preserved ancient Buddha statues in them.

The following presentation was made by a new member of the Local History Club, Kayirbek Alisher, a student from the group 1042 of the School of Medicine. It was dedicated to the participation of Finno-Ugric tribes in the ethnogeny of the largest Turkic ethnic group of the Middle Ages – the Kipchaks, peculiarly the Kazakhs. It is worth pointing out that an incredibly comprehensible and at the same time scientific style of the presentation. And what is more a lot of interesting facts that the speaker provided, based on available sources.
Further, we heard a candid story from a long-time contributor of the Local History Club, Igor Fisenko (in the recent past, one of the best students of the specialty "General Medicine" at KSMU), who told us about his profession of an anaesthetist at the Children's Regional Hospital, having explained about the positive aspects of this field and potential challenges that for young doctors in the future. In view of interesting examples from their medical practice and Igor's openness, the students were able to draw many points for themselves, for which we would like to express our special gratitude to our senior colleague! All participants of the presentations and reports were awarded commemorative certificates for participation in the Student Scientific Club of the department, signed by the head of the department, S.A. Nikiforova.

Our club unites students of different courses, and young doctors, as well as instructors – everyone who is interested in the geographical and historical sights of our Saryarka region, and the entire Kazakhstan. For those who are interested in our trips of recent years, which we make in winter, spring and summer, we recommend watching the videos from the "You KMU" YouTube channel:

And we invite anyone interested to the next meetings of our club!
