Karaganda Medical University and Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF Cluj) in Romania are expanding their collaboration.

In 2018, the universities demonstrated mutual interest by signing a memorandum on cooperation. During a recent mission from the Karaganda region to Cluj-Napoca, Karaganda's twin city, new agreements have been reached on a number of important topics that will improve educational and research processes. Viktor Riklefs, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development at Karaganda Medical University, represented the university.

"Currently, our priority is collaboration in training pharmacists," V. P. Riklefs noted about the prospect of enhancing connections with Romanian colleagues. "I witnessed excellent practices in their educational technologies, and we have a lot to share in this area. Naturally, we will look into the possibility of exchange of students and teachers under academic mobility programs. Furthermore, the opportunity for collaborative research in bioinformatics, genomics, and biomedicine, as well as preclinical and clinical drug trials, is particularly appealing."

The visit resulted in an agreement to arrange and host a business forum in the Karaganda region in 2025, which will bring together entrepreneurs from both countries.
