"HIV/AIDS: Knowledge is Power"

On November 20, 2024, teachers of the Epidemiology module of the School of Public Health, in collaboration with employees of the "Karaganda Regional Center for the Prevention and Fight Against AIDS" SME, namely epidemiologist I.A. Venchikova, epidemiologist’s assistant G.A. Usmanova, conducted a training session on the topic of "Prevention of HIV infection" among 2nd year students of the "Medical and Preventative Care" educational program, 3rd year students of "Public Health" and 5th year students of "General Medicine".
Training session is one of the methods of active learning aimed at developing knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as social attitude in the fight and prevention of HIV/AIDS. This event is aimed at honing or acquiring new skills, solving psychological and social problems, creating new clusters of business acquaintances.

The training session covered the issues of epidemiological situation of HIV infection in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the causes of the disease and its spread, sources, transmission paths and mechanisms of transmission of the pathogen, as well as measures to prevent this infection. A presentation and a video have been demonstrated, story and business games were held among the students on HIV/AIDS prevention. The aim of the games was to stimulate the participants of the training session to react quickly to the situation, find solutions in a timely manner and exchange ideas.

The students took an active part, asked questions to which they received comprehensive answers. It was very positive, interesting, fun and educational. The students were able to learn the prepared material and deepen their knowledge of HIV infection. For the purpose of preventing HIV infection, all those present were given brochures, notepads notebooks, and other prizes.
