"Building Educational and Research Capacities in Nutrition and Dietetics in Central Asia"

As part of the Erasmus+ Project 101082831 – BERNICA – ERASMUS-EDU-2022-CBHE "Building Educational and Research Capacities in Nutrition and Dietetics in Central Asia" the international days “Global Perspectives in Nutrition and Dietetics Education” were held in Bishkek on November 5-6, and on November 7-8, 2025, the International Higher School of Medicine hosted the final international conference of the BERNICA project “Transforming Nutrition & Dietetics Education in Central Asia: Achievements and Future Perspectives.” The event was organized by project coordinator Professor Kenesh Uskenbayevich Dzhussupov and the team of the International Higher School of Medicine (Kyrgyzstan). The events were attended by representatives from Kazakhstan (Karaganda Medical University, Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov), Kyrgyzstan (International Higher School of Medicine, Osh State University), Tajikistan (Avicenna Tajik State Medical University, Khatlon State Medical University), and Uzbekistan (Tashkent State Medical University, Bukhara State Medical University). The Kazakhstani team was represented under the guidance of the Republican project coordinator, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Karlygash Kabdeshevna Toguzbayeva. Karaganda Medical University was represented by Professor Lyazat Katayevna Ibrayeva and Associate Professor Irina Viktorovna Bacheva. Colleagues from partner universities presented at international events: Dr. Manuela Konrad (Fachhochschule Joanneum, Austria), Dr. Indrani Kalkan (Istanbul Medipol University, Türkiye), Prof. Gulgun Ersoy (Istanbul Medipol University, Türkiye), and a training manual developed as part of the BERNICA project was presented. .png)
During the International Days, reports and discussions were presented on the topics of “Current Global Status and Best Practices” and “Innovation and Future Directions.” Associate Professor I.V. Bacheva delivered a report on the topic of “Practice-oriented training within the BERNICA project”.
The International Final Conference discussed issues on Project Achievements and Impact Assessment and Quality Assurance and Sustainability Policy Implications and Way Forward. Professor L.K. Ibrayeva gave a presentation on “Laboratory integration success stories.” Based on the results of three years of work on the BERNICA project, a “Declaration” was drawn up, reflecting the collective vision of the importance of transforming education in nutrition and dietetics in Central Asia. It was deemed to continue further development in this area by updating the educational process in dietetics and nutritional science in Central Asian countries.
